Sugar It Nice

In my effort to try new things, I’ve found myself diverting from traditional forms of things and opting for the alternative. Not because of any health concerns or me wanting to join the hype of being apart of the alternative world, but because I’ve found that certain things give me the results that I’ve either always wanted or never knew I wanted. That being said, one of these alternatives that I’ve fallen for is in the realm of sugaring. Sugaring, if you are unfamiliar, is a form of hair removal; and it has been said that it is the oldest form of hair removal.

Like most other people, I typically get rid of any unwanted hair by way of shaving or cream (the OG, Nair). I’ve gotten traditional waxing done before, but always every now and again when I get the time. I went online in search of a cheaper service and ended up finding a sugaring place in the city. On the website it says that the paste is made from water, lemon juice and sugar.

I made the appointment and went along. I only had my underarms done since it was a new experience and I wanted to see how my skin would react to it. The lady who did the sugaring was really nice. She asked me a few questions, like if it was my first time etc. It was now time for the paste to be applied.

I noticed it was a very pretty thick brown paste and when she put it on my armpit, it had a nice warm feeling. She told me to use my free hand to pull against the skin near my pit so she could apply it properly. So, I will say that the application part hurt a bit because the paste literally picked up all of the hair that was there and tugged it. The lady count to three after a while a pulled. It stung but it was over in 10 seconds. The technician went over the spots again maybe two more times just to make sure she got everything. After she was done with the first pit, she went to the other one and repeated. I probably stayed in the room fifteen minutes at most and then I was all done.

The final result was a silky smooth armpit. I don’t know how to describe it, but my hair free armpit felt a lot more smooth and mosturized at the end of the sugaring process than it usually does when I’d get them waxed.

This picture were taken two weeks after my appointment. I don’t know if you can see it properly, but there’s no sign of any hair or fuzz coming through. My hair usually grows really fast so I was not expecting to feel nothing after two weeks. The dark areas in my armpits are from years of shaving and harsh hair creams.

So I think I’ll be sticking with sugaring from now on. I really like the results and that almost no pain that goes with it. I’m a fan!
