Back To My Roots
For the longest time, I've had permed or chemically processed hair. It started back when I was a little girl and Just For Me and Beautiful Beginnings by Dark and Lovely were apart of my life. Of course, those early creme days didn't last long and I eventually went back to my natural hair. Fast forward a few years later and it was time to venture off to boarding school. Knowing that I just did not have the patience to care for my hair on my own, my mother and I made the decision to once again to give the chemicals a go. That was almost ten years ago.
Recently, I've been seriously considering going back to my natural hair because I've grown tired of how my hair looks and feels with the perm. I usually get one every two to three months depending on how fast my hair grows out. I believe my last perm was in June or July. It's been a few months, that's for sure. Since then, I've made the conscious effort not to go get it done because I've settled on the whole growing my hair out and going natural again thing.
So! Since I'm newly in transition, I went out and bought a whole bunch of things for my hair to help with getting it back to where it was.
I'll list the products and all that jazz below.
!!!! Please note I'm not sponsored by any of these brands, I'm just a consumer who's eager to try the products I spent money on.
I discovered Mielle Organics on Instagram a while back and being the product junkie that I am, I decided to give them a shot. I initially bought the Avocado Moisturizing Hair Milk (not pictured here) and tried it out for a little. I like that it made my hair soft and manageable, even on it's roughest days. For me it provided the right amount of moisture for my hair without leaving any heavy residue or feeling. I eventually added their White Peony Leave-In Conditioner, the Babassu Oil Mint Deep Conditioner and the Detangling Co-Wash to my hair care routine.
After a few months using all of the products I mentioned, I started to notice that my hair was growing much faster than it usually does (and my hair grows really fast). It's also a lot softer than usual and I started to notice that my curls or waves - they look more like waves to me - are a bit more defined than usual. So based on the improvements I was seeing to my crown, I decided that I am going to go full fledged with Mielle as my main hair care line for now.
As I've mentioned before, I'm transitioning back to my natural naps and so I bought items from the line that I think will help with process; and after researching online, I decided to buy (almost) the entire Mongongo Oil line of products.
As shown over ... there 👉🏾👉🏾👉🏾
The only thing I didn't get was the setting spray and that's because I don't know how to set my hair myself so that would have been a pointless buy.
I'd like to acknowledge that the Mielle girlies are tad bit on the pricer end when compared to the other brands. Prices ranged from 12.99 to 14.99, which is not too bad if you buy them one at a time.
I'm excited to try them out and see how my hair reacts to it. There's nothing like trying new products for the first time. So hopefully they do something and hopefully I don't get agitated and give in to the perm.
