ANTI-Lemonade

Hi there readers! Today's post should have been up since last week but I'm only now just getting around to it (SORRY!).

So it's been a full week since the ANTI-Lemonade art exhibit took place here in New York City.

Basically the purpose (I'm guessing), was to highlight the only two female musical icons we have and their (arguably) best works to date. It was a night to celebrate these two women who have shaped, touched and defined the music industry and people's lives over the last decade and before. It felt like a night that celebrated power, strength, unity and empowerment across all floors.

I decided to go to the exhibit because I truly needed a night out and I figured why not spend money towards a cause supporting my faves.

In the words of Beyonce, "You can't put blue lights on black girls."

I eventually met up with someone who was also going and we ventured on together. The event was done in three separate stagings; my staging was from 8:30 to 10:30 I believe. I got to the venue and the line literally wrapped around the block. I was honestly surprised. I thought it was going to be some little gathering, not expecting the turn out that happened. Inside was even more packed with people.

There were four floors with different things happening. The main floor had the center pieces of the exhibit, with the DJ and a small station that sold small merchandise. The middle floor was what I'll call the "BLOW" room. There were glow in the dark art and girls on roller skates. The bar was also glow in the dark which was pretty nice. Upstairs, was another bar and there was the "S&M" section to the left and a Caribbean section to the right. The bottom floor was hosting the Allure Dance Company, where they were teaching willing participants moves to Crazy In Love.

It was an art exhibit so there wasn't much to do than walk about and view the works on display. All four levels had the artists standing by some of the pictures where you could ask questions about the work and inquire about costs if you were looking to purchase anything. It was a good event for what it was and I'm happy that it was a success for the host and the artists involved. The only problem I had was that I never got any of the signature drinks that were advertised. The bar areas were packed all night and I was very much annoyed by that. Besides that, great fun. The artwork was really good too; better than what I was expecting. Bellow I'll show some of my favorite pieces. Click on the pictures to see descriptions and artist info!
