PRINCESS - EP
I recently discovered the talented ABRA on Twitter when I kept seeing the artwork for her latest project, PRINCESS floating up and down my timeline and I thought, Hmmmm....Who is this? Let me check her out. So I floated over to my new friend Apple Music and searched for this PRINCESS EP that I've been seeing and after sitting with music for a while, I'll let you know what I think.
1. COME 4 ME - This is a great intro. It definitely grabbed my attention and made me want to continue listening. It's short and sweet and has a great beat. I listen to it on repeat sometimes before I actually go on to the rest of the songs. It has a certain attitude to it that I love.
2. VEGAS - Vegas makes me think of a lot of lights. Considering it's a song about how spending the night with this one person makes you feel like you're in the Sin City it makes sense. The mood of the song is relaxed which I like.
3. CRYBABY - This is my JAM! This is for sure my favourite song off the EP. The music is so 80s which immediately drew me in. It's a mix of techno and a subtle trap beat; two of my favourite genres merged, I couldn't have asked for anything better. You're calling me a crybaby, but you're making me cry! YAS!
4. BIG BOI (feat. Tommy Genesis) - You're a big boy, you can handle yourself but what I'm looking for I need somebody else. My other jam! The vocals haunt over this dope beat and make you think about all the times you be at a party or a club and some dude rolls up to you flexing and you just roll your eyes and keep it pushing.
5. PULL UP - My other other jam. You know what? Sometimes you just gotta pull up on some people who try to do you dirty. If you ever find yourself in a similar situation put this song on and do a gangsta pose out the front passenger window; kinda like Beyonce in the Formation video but with a mean mug.
6. THINKING OF U - Would it be too much to say that this song is my other other other jam? No? Well, there you go.
FAVORITES - The entire thing honestly but my standouts are,
Crybaby, Come 4 Me and Big Boi.
The entire project is only six songs and I'm glad and sad at the same time. When I get to the end I want more but in the same breath, it's perfect as is. I really like this EP and I think it was a great introduction to ABRA and her lovely talents. I've listened to her other projects and I am officially a fan! "Fruit" from the Rose album has been added to my favourite songs ever list; that and a few other gems. I've noticed that ABRA's sound in general is very influenced by the 80s techno sound but it's mixed with hip/hop trap which makes it even better. Overall it's a good project and I am excited to see what else miss ABRA comes with next.
