Rum Cakes For Everybody
Nothing says it's Christmas time like a nice hearty Christmas Cake. If you are Jamaican like myself, you already know that if we have nothing else around during the holiday time, we have a whole heap of cake. It would not be a Jamaican Christmas without that cake and it's best friend the sorrel. Literally no exaggeration, the amount of Christmas Cakes made can and will last you for months after the fact. The beauty of this cake is that from start to finish and thereafter, it is dripping in wine. Not just any wine, no no; it's that good ol' Red Lable wine. The sorrel as mentioned would also be consumed by J Wray and his Nephew.
Now since I'm not at home to get any of these treats, I was beyond thrilled when I went strolling through the supermarket the other day and found none other than Tortuga Rum Cake; which in my opinion is a great substitute for the Christmas Cake. Not only is it made in Jamaica, but it is also soaked in rum. So of course you know I bought one. Usually I've only ever seen the large container so I was quite tickled when I saw the mini single size.

How cute is it?! I was almost afraid to eat it - *almost*. Though I'm not a fan of the fruits in it, it was great overall. Just looking at the picture makes me want another one.
These cakes make me think about how growing up, December used to be everybody's favorite time of year because us little ones would get to eat the nice cake and drink the nice sorrel and be dupped up on rum and wine for the entire month. Fun times.
Wherever you're from, what treats are a staple in your home during the Christmas season?
