A Pint of Love
Can you believe it took me damn near the end of the summer to get out and go explore the city?
I wouldn't exactly call it an exploration, but I had the rare pleasure of going to Manhattan about a week ago on some business. On my way back to good ole Brooklyn, I noticed a familiar face around the area. I was on Spring Street and happened to walk by a Baked By Melissa pop-up shop. Now I have been a fan of Melissa's sweet treats for a long time and got super excited when I saw the pop-up sign. Naturally, I stopped and searched the small list of goodies that were on display. It was then that I noticed something about ice-cream and as it was as hot as ever, I figured why not. I think it cost about $5 and some change; I could be wrong, I don't really remember.
So this new treat is a limited edition type of thing and it will only be around for the summer. It's a collaboration between Baked By Melissa and Ample Hills Creamery. Before this product, I've never heard of Ample Hill, so I looked them up. Apparently, they are based right here in New York City and have multiple locations all over Brooklyn and Manhattan and a few in Queens (I've made a mental note to pay a visit to one of the stores soon enough).
Very fun packaging. An ode to cupcakes.
The ice-cream is called "Summer Of Love" and it is Melissa's famous mini tie-dyed cupcakes blended in with a really sweet and creamy vanilla ice-cream. When I actually got into and started eating the ice-cream, I noticed that there were whole cupcakes with icing on top in the mixture. I had thought it would have been small chunks and pieces scattered throughout, but it turns out that's wasn't the case. The picture below is how the product looks before you dive in, obviously. I wish I had thought about taking pictures of it once I started eating it. The trains were coming and I had a million bags on me and it was starting to melt so pictures were the least of my concern.
Yum!
I really liked it. My only problem was that the cream part was a bit too sweet for my taste. I've always been iffy about flavours in general. I like that it's vanilla, but I don't like that it was such a strong vanilla, if that makes sense to you. It's a very rich vanilla for better wording. I prefer a subtle vanilla taste. The other thing I did not like was the presence of the icing in the batter. I personally hate icing. I don't like; I never have and I never will. As a matter of fact, I kept biting into the icing part a lot towards the end and once I realized what I was eating, I threw the entire carton away.
Even though it was too rich and such, I thoroughly enjoyed the ice cream. The cupcakes were amazing and it blended really well with the cream. Like I mentioned before, I'm going to take a trip to one of the Ample Hill shops to test the different ice-creams out. I'm curious to know if all of the flavours are as rich as the vanilla or if the taste of Summer Of Love just a special case.
MTA riders gave me side eyes for eating good, smh.
There you have it!
My one day out led me to find a staple and classic merging to create pretty fun sweet treats.
So, the next time you're in the city, do yourselves a favor and find a Baked By Melissa's and try the Summer Of Love ice-cream before it's gone!
